According to research, these green vegetables are equally beneficial for canines, if a moderate quantity is fed. Similarly, both nori and kelp are safe for dogs unless they are seasoned with salt and other spices, like garlic. The first problem with wild seaweed is that it dries up out and shrinks in summer. When a dog eats this green vegetable, it absorbs water from his/her body and expands in the digestive system. Consequently, it creates a blockage that could potentially be fatal.

In addition to that, seaweed on the beach contains many pollutants and critters that could be harmful to your pooch. Similarly, eating seaweed off the beach can also lead to salt poisoning in dogs. If you feel that your pet has eaten some wild seaweed, contact your vet as soon as possible.

Moderation is Important

Once a puppy has crossed the age of 8 weeks, you can start to give him/her some solid food. Seaweed can be a good supplement for puppies because it is soft and easy to digest. However, it is important to develop a nutritionally-balanced diet before introducing this green vegetable. Once you have found a healthy dog food recipe, you can sprinkle some cooked seaweed on top of it.

Homemade Dog Food Recipe with Nori

Are you looking to make a healthy and scrumptious snack for your pup? This Chicken Jerky with Ginger and Nori is just the thing your dog needs.

Ingredients:

• 2 to 3 Chicken Breasts
• 2 Nori Sheets
• 1 tablespoon dried Ginger
• 2 cups Water

Directions

1. Using a food processor or blender grind the nori sheets to a powder.
2. Combine water, ground nori, and ginger in a bowl.
3. Clean the chicken breasts. Then, carefully slice them into strips, removing all the fat you can from the meat. They are easier to cut if allowed to freeze slightly.
4. Place chicken strips into the marinade and allow to marinate for at least an hour in the refrigerator.
5. Preheat oven to 180 degrees Fahrenheit.
6. Place on a cookie sheet ½ inch apart and brush with marinade for additional flavor.
7. Dry in an oven, with the door slightly open to let out moisture, until meat is dry in appearance and texture (about 3 to 4 hours).
8. Cool and store in an airtight container.

Ingredients:

• 3 ½ cups of chopped, cooked white turkey meat
• 1 cup of chopped broccoli
• 1 ½ cups of cooked quinoa
• ½ cup of chopped apples
• 1 Tablespoon of powdered turmeric
• 1 Tablespoon of kelp powder

Directions

1. Put the broccoli and apples in a blender or food processor and pulse until you reach the desired consistency.
2. Then, put the mixture in a bowl and add other ingredients. Mix everything and form pie patties.
3. Serve the snack to your dog or store the patties in the refrigerator. Alternatively, you can freeze them for more long-term storage.
