Smitten Firefighter Adopts Tiny Kitten He Rescued From Bottom Of Storm Drain

Image
Love-at-first-sight is a real thing. Just ask any cat lover, and they’ll tell you it’s true. Many feline fanciers will happily impart the tale of how they felt when setting eyes on their kitty for the first time. Most would even tell you how they knew this special soul would be part of their life forevermore. And firefighter Brandon Mulvaney has recently learned this truth of love thanks to Huntley, a tiny kitten he rescued from a dire situation. The bond between a man and his cat began with an early morning call to the Saginaw Fire Department in Michigan regarding an animal trapped in a storm drain. At one a.m. in the morning, Brandon, his fellow firefighters, and officers from the Saginaw County Animal Care & Control (SCACC) gathered around a maintenance hole to figure out how best to rescue a crying kitten stuck in the underground drains . In the end, Brandon would be the one to make the seven-foot drop into the pipe to locate the kitten. Facebook Rescuing His Best Frien

Can Cats See Optical Illusions?

Image
Cats and humans certainly see the world in different ways, but some things definitely leave us seeing eye-to-eye. For example, kitties love a soft blanket just as much as their human minions. We can also agree with the feline kind that naps in the sunshine are the best. Cats and humans alike tend to share the belief that dinnertime is the happiest time too. And surprisingly, we’re both fascinated by optical illusions. Yes, that’s right; cats can see optical illusions too. Or at least two of them for sure anyway. Thanks to two separate studies, we’ve learned cat vision can indeed be fooled by illusions like the “Rotating Snakes” and the Kanizsa contour illusion, which trips the ‘If I Fits, I Sits’ rule cats cling to so heartily. Facebook Prestidigitation To the Feline Eye When it comes to learning about cats and their reactions to the world, researchers often turn to citizen science projects in order to keep kitties in their home environments. Due to the feline’s nature to be str

Tribute: Heaven Can Wait

They say, “All Dogs Go to Heaven” but I’m starting to have my doubts. They say, “All Dogs Go to Heaven” but I’m starting to have my doubts. The reason for this is our almost one-year-old puppy that we inappropriately named Gracie. She is a “Border Aussie” mix with Tasmanian Devil, Shark, Goat, and a bit of Cujo thrown in. The day we brought Gracie home, she was shy, adorably scared, and docile…it was the most peaceful twenty-four hours we had with her. Since that time, she has been a full-time terror. iHeartCats works closely with Greater Good Charities   by donating part of each sale to their various charity efforts. One of these programs,   Rescue Bank , works to donate quality pet food to shelters and animal rescues in need. Some organizations could not run without kind donations like this, so by supporting us you’re supporting them too. An independent volunteer who looks after a rural cat colony receives food drops from HOPE Spay and Neuter Clinic , a veterinary clinic in Versailles, Kentucky. When she noticed a kitty in the colony had a ruptured eyeball and couldn’t walk, she called HOPE. Right away, the HOPE representative   told the woman to bring her this cat. When she assessed the kitten, she learned a few things. Firstly, his eyeball wasn’t actually ruptured. He had a cutebra larvae in his eye socket. The vet assured her he wasn’t in pain, and that the eyeball would come back into place eventually. (The following image may be disturbing to sensitive readers.) As fo

A Perfect Compromise

I hated trudging outside for the newspaper every morning. It never failed that a neighbor would drive by and wave, or worse yet, someone would walk by on his way to the park and want to stop and chat.  I was uncomfortable interacting with people while sleepy-eyed and droopy, still in my PJs, and with ‘bed hair’ sticking out every which way.  That’s why I decided to give the job of paperboy to my dog Keeper. It seemed like the ideal solution. Tags:  literature essays from The Bark https://ift.tt/3jEuOG9

Guard Your Work Gloves! This Cat Wants To Steal Them All

Chai spent the first year of her life as a stray cat, wandering the outdoors with no home to call her own. But after being picked up by a rescue, Chai found her forever home with pawrents Sam and Kira Mandon-Jones. That was four years ago now. And in those years, Chai has made friends with much of the neighborhood as the lure of outdoor adventuring still calls to her. But she always comes home to her family. Lately, though, Chai has been bringing things home with her. Not a random assortment of items, but just one very purrticular thing. Chai has an odd fascination with work gloves. And her glove love is no passing fancy. She possesses such a love for work gloves, the silly cat has carried home more than 30 pairs in the last month! Photo: Kent Online Putting Out the Word If you love cats, and we know you do, you know kitties love to bring us presents . Usually, it’s a mangled lizard or bird, but Chai’s gifts could actually be pretty useful if they weren’t stolen goods! The gi
