Image
At first glance of Mama Macy in an Instagram photo surrounded by a sea of tiny kittens, she looks quite unsure about her maternal duties. Between her litter and the one she adopted, Macy has quite the clowder on her paws. But foster mom Wilma assures this amazing cat is a marvelous mother to her combined litter of ten. And thanks to the teamwork between Macy and Wilma, those ten little ones have grown into fine young cats that have gone on to find their forever homes. But these sweet kittens might not have made it to their new families without the help of a kind soul who discovered a big feline family in need of some help. Instagram Mom To Them All Macy and her ten kittens arrived in the care of the Humane League of Lancaster County in Pennsylvania after a kind soul trapped them and brought them in. The ten kittens belonged to Macy and another stray cat, but the other mom couldn’t be found. Still, it was better to take all the kittens and one mom rather than risk some of them b

CattyCorner: How The “Fingers” On Your Cat’s Tongue Can Lead To Big Trouble

Image
Greetings, my pawsome human minions. Forrest Wisewhiskers, your tabby of tutelage, is here again to discuss the barbed marvels of the feline tongue known as papillae. It’s a topic I bring to you as I ate a strand of my mother’s hair today, and she threw her usual hissy fit. To which I respond, why does she drop them all over the house if she doesn’t want me to eat them? But instead of rational discussion, she has to make an exaggerated show of helping me get the hair off my tongue as I’m gagging and indignant. And to make it all the more dramatic, she brings out the same snarky thing I’ve heard a hundred times… “Forrest, why do you eat my hair? What if it wrapped around your tongue, and you swallowed it! Then you’d have to go to the vet because you might get really sick!” I know; she can be a shrew. She’s also very squeaky when vexed. But it’s because she loves me. And how could she not; I’m a wonder. Much like my tongue… Tiny Fingers of the Feline Tongue When you think of t

Animal rescues and shelters never see a break when it comes to intakes. Their facilities and foster homes stay packed as animals always remain in need. In the already crowded and underfunded rescue world, things can get even more complicated when a large load of animals gets anonymously dumped, making the scramble to feed, treat, and house the furry ones even tougher. And one animal rescue group in Evansville, Indiana, wants people to understand why it’s essential to follow proper protocols when surrendering animals to shelters after someone abandoned twenty-three cats and kittens at their doorstep. Facebook Cats and Kittens Dumped in Summer Heat Arriving to work on a hot Monday morning deep into summer, Vanderburgh Humane Society employees discovered crates and plastic bins packed with twenty-three felines ranging from fully grown to newly born. One VHS employee took to TikTok to share the discovery, explaining, “I came into work this morning with 23 cats waiting on our back

PA Rescue Pairs Senior Cats With Senior Citizens For Purrfect Friendships

Senior cats often go overlooked in rescues and shelters, but one rescue group in the Lehigh Valley of Philadelphia has made sure senior cats are finding happy homes with those that understand them best—senior citizens. The Feline Urban Rehab and Rescue , or FURR for short, aims to better the lives of all cats. And through their Seniors 4 Seniors program, kitties in their twilight years get a chance at happily ever after while brightening the life of cat-loving seniors. And for 72-year-old Ken Johnson and his feline buddy, 13-year-old Tully, the program has been a success, filling both their lives with happiness and love. Facebook Connecting Old Cats and Elderly People When FURR began Seniors 4 Seniors in 2020, the aim was to help senior cats find comfortable and loving homes while bringing the option of caring for a cat back to senior citizens that face financial roadblocks.
