Cat Teaches Foster Kitten Cuddle Skills
Kittens are usually expert cuddle buddies, but a sick ginger baby had to learn the snuggle arts after his rough beginnings on the Los Angeles streets.
Little Finn was found alone on the streets at only 6 weeks old. When taken in at Best Friends Animal Society, staff discovered the baby to be suffering from a respiratory infection and a severe one at that. He was in need of care, and while standoffish, the tiny tabby boy didn’t want to be left alone. Now surrounded with love and safety, Finn wanted to be a lovey kitty, but he had no idea how.
Best Friends knew Finn would benefit from time in foster care where he could grow healthy and learn how to snuggle and play. Aly of Hello Kiro Rescue volunteered to take the orange tabby kitten. The foster mom and her two cats have helped over 30 kitties find forever homes and she knew her tabby, Zephyr, would be just the man to help little Finn come around to hugs and kisses.
Z, as he’s known for short, is her right-hand tabby when it comes to kitten fostering. Aly told Love Meow, “He is my foster fail kitty and has been with me since he was five weeks old.”
“He has a big heart and lots of patience for tiny kittens.”
Cuddle Lessons Begin
Aly brought Finn home and the kitten did not want to leave the security of the crate. But Z was on the job. The grey tabby cat crept right in the crate and said hello to Finn. Z gently kissed Finn, putting his tawny nose to Finn’s sweet pink nose.
Aly posted their meeting on Instagram, writing, “This little orange kitty is taking his time to trust us and that’s completely fine! We’re letting him sit quietly where he feels safe.”
While not sure at first, Finn came around, realizing he was safe his new friend.
His confidence grew with Z there to help him learn.
Finn felt so safe with Z, he even tried to comfort nurse the tabby’s “chubby belly”.
He followed his new big cat hero everywhere, acting as his ginger cat shadow.
“Within a week, Z helped him come out of his shell.”
Finn Graduates to Forever Home
Just before Christmas, Finn proved ready for adoption. While he could be a bit of a spooky cat, he’d learned about love from Z and would be happy in his new home. Aly gave an update about Finn’s new family, “He will have a rescued older brother Yazhi to follow around. Finn fell asleep in his new dad’s lap when they came to see him yesterday. It was meant to be.”
Aly and Z will miss little Finn, but thanks to their hard work and kind hearts, the once terrified kitten grew to be a loving cat. Great work!
