Green Smoothie For Dogs: A Refreshing Treat In Minutes
It’s beginning to feel a lot like summer! With the temperatures rising, I find myself in the mood for frozen yogurt, ice cream, and other refreshing treats. So, the other day as I was reaching for a smoothie, I thought to myself, “Maybe my dogs would like a little lick!” Sure … our dogs should usually stick to regular ol’ H2O, and they should always have a fresh bowl within tongues-reach. But, every now and then, it’s fun to spice things up with a little flavor. Enter: This fun Green Smoothie For Dogs!
Made with just a few dog-approved ingredients, you can create this liquid treat in about a minute. Plus, you may even want to take a little sip yourself!
A Look At What’s Inside: The Health Benefits
Pineapple – In moderation, fresh pineapple (not canned) is a great snack for dogs. Not only is it delicious, but it’s also loaded with Vitamin C and a bunch of other immune-boosting vitamins and minerals. Plus, this popular fruit has a somewhat random benefit. Experts say if you have a dog who eats their own poop, you may want to try feeding them pineapple. It’s supposed to alter the taste, making it unappetizing to dogs. Since pineapple is high in fiber and natural sugars, don’t overdo it or your pup may get a stomach ache.
Peanut Butter – Peanut butter is loaded with healthy fats and protein, which are great for your pooch (in moderation). When picking out the perfect jar to use in your homemade dog treats, though, make sure to read the ingredient label very carefully. Some brands use Xylitol to sweeten their peanut butter, which is incredibly toxic to dogs.
Kale – Just like kale is a superfood for people, its many vitamins and minerals also benefit the canine body.
Ground Chia Seeds – These little seeds may be tiny, but they’re also mighty. Chia seeds tout a variety of beneficial nutrients such as Omega-3 fatty acids, calcium, iron, and magnesium! *Use pre-ground chia seeds.
Have Leftovers?
This recipe makes one small green smoothie bowl. But, one bowl doesn’t necessarily mean one serving. That will depend on your dog’s size, diet, and lifestyle. Remember, this is just a special treat … not a meal. I serve this to my two dogs and then freeze the leftovers in dog-themed silicone molds. Links to my favorite molds below (if you’re a regular here then you’ve seen me use these red silicone molds many times before).
