About Salmonella

Salmonella is a bacterial disease that can affect animals who eat contaminated foods and humans who either eat or handle contaminated foods.

Pets do not always display symptoms when infected with Salmonella, but they may experience diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, vomiting, abdominal pain, lethargy, and decreased appetite. If your pooch has consumed the recalled food and experiences these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian.

People infected with Salmonella can develop similar symptoms, including diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps. If you develop these symptoms then check with your healthcare provider immediately.

Feed This Food?

If you feed your dog any of the foods listed above, the FDA urges you to stop immediately and throw it away in a secure container where other animals — including wildlife — cannot access it. Make sure to carefully wash and disinfect your freezer, refrigerator, bowls, utensils, floor, and anything else that may have come into contact with the infected foods.

If your dog has eaten the infected foods listed above and develops symptoms, you can report illness to the FDA Safety Reporting Portal online or by phone. If you prefer to make a report by phone, you can contact your states FDA Consumer Complaint Coordinators HERE
