With The Holiday Season Here, CA University Cat Rescue Needs Your Help

Image
Let’s talk about nine-year-old Rangoon for a second. This sweet lady has had it rough. She was rescued from a hoarding situation, which tends to be filthy and cramped living. When the homeowner passed away, Rangoon and five other cats were liberated and brought into the care of the Cal Poly Cat Program at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo. And now, like so many cats that have found a better life through this non-profit cat sanctuary, Rangoon is living comfy in a special foster home that can provide her with the dedicated care she needs to help fight pancreatitis and slow her advancing kidney disease. Simply put, Rangoon symbolizes the mission behind the Cal Poly Cat Program. Facebook Cal Poly’s Cat Mission Since 1992, the Cal Poly Cat Program has saved cats from the streets and other rough conditions, with the program originally started as a senior project to reduce the feral and stray cat population on campus. A second senior project evolved the progra...

Study Finds People With High Emotional Reactivity Are Typically Drawn To Cats

Image
If a cat owns you, you know felines can calm stress and bring tranquility to the people who love them. One recent study concentrates on this power, revealing people with high emotional drives tend to be drawn to cats, and these strong feelers would better benefit from their inclusion in animal therapy programs. In the journal Anthrozoös , the study points out that most of these “Pet Your Stress Away” events only include dogs . Researchers found those with high emotionality expressed interest in attending animal assistance therapy if cats were included. The study also concluded a greater number of people could be reached by adding cats to these stress-release events. And helping more people find better mental health is always a win. Emotions and Cats Seem to Mix When lead author Joni Delanoeije of the Belgian university KU Leuven and co-author Patricia Pendry, a professor at Washington State University’s Department of Human Development, set out to learn if more people would attend ...

A Tale Of Two Foster Kittens & Their Dog Friend Brings A Reminder For Cold Days

Image
Two kittens are safe and sound in foster care after an on-duty EMT had the foresight to check beneath the hood of his car and look for felines seeking a warm spot out of the winter cold. On a chilly day in New Jersey, EMT Tom spied two little bodies playing chase outside the Galloway Township Ambulance Squad facilities. Realizing it was kittens outside the building, Tom was concerned the little ones could climb inside someone’s car engine for warmth. So, when his partner went to start her car the next morning, Tom wanted to check for kittens in the engine bay. Instagram It’s a good thing his intuition spoke up because, indeed, there were two kittens tucked in the engine! And to make a good rescue story even better, once rescued, kittens Wally and Buddy found a foster friend in Tom’s dog, Arya. You might even be surprised how quickly some kitties take to strapping in and getting out for adventure! Especially if you’ve got a feline who craves adventure like Mia the Bengal cat.
