CattyCorner: Why Do Some Cats Skip Burying Their Poop?

Image
Greetings, my pawsome human minions. Forrest Wisewhiskers, your cat of comprehension, is here again with a topic that stinks…uncovered cat poop. Imagine this, if you will. You’re enjoying your day, doing whatever humans like to do, and you catch a whiff wafting from the litter pan that’s strong enough to singe your nose hairs. Now, you know kitty poo stinks, but this is some kind of intense, so you check the pan and find a big steaming pile of uncovered cat poop. I know, yuck. I myself am a staunch coverer, but some kitties aren’t. For some, it’s just a quirk because they’re comfy in their environment. And for others, they harbor one of several reasons for not burying their poop. Take Kevin TwoToe, for example. Keven TwoToe Doesn’t Care If You Have To Cover His Poop Keven TwoToe was the most formidable and roughest cat I ever met. Not only was he the Tom-iest of Tom cats, if you know what I mean, his attitude was just as big as his big furry nuggets. He’d lived a hard life on th...

Virginia Animal Rescue Is Gearing Up To Save Abandoned Cats In Ukraine

Image
The Russian assault on Ukraine rages on, and cats in the war-torn country continue to face abandonment, illness, injury, and starvation. But, even in the face of cruelty and violence, brave souls from all over the world have steadily risked their lives to bring these vulnerable felines to safety. Longtime Homeward Trails Animal Rescue volunteer Shana Aufenkamp is one of them. And after spending the month of May 2022 helping animals in a country where safety is in short supply, she’s ready to go back again. This time though, Shana will have the Fairfax Station, VA, animal rescue’s executive director Sue Bell by her side for the journey into danger. And when they return, the pair plans on bringing thirty felines home with them so that these poor kitties can find their new start in forever homes here in the U.S. Facebook Racing to Save Cats in Harm’s Way When the war first broke out in February 2022, Shana felt the urge to help cats in Ukraine and spent that following May in the a...

101-Year-Old Woman And Oldest Shelter Cat Become A Purr-Fect Match

Image
A cat named Gus was 19 years old when he arrived at a shelter. His family was heartbroken to give him up, but a sudden life-changing situation left them with no choice. The shelter promised to give Gus lots of love, but they knew he deserved a more suitable environment for his senior years. Upon arriving, Gus got a health screening that showed he was in excellent condition for almost 20 years old. He was still very active and loving despite everything. Senior pets are often the last to get adopted, but luckily, Gus’ perfect family found him sooner than expected. Facebook 101-Year-Old Woman Seeks Elderly Cat The Humane Society of Catawba County worried that it would be hard for Gus to find a home because of his age. But to their surprise, someone was looking for a senior cat around the same time. A few weeks into Gus’ shelter stay, the volunteers received a call from a family looking for a cat for their 101-year-old mother named Penny. Penny’s cat recently passed away, so her k...

Cat Found Lifeless Brought Back From The Brink Of Death With Special Oxygen Mask

Image
For most of us pet parents, the idea of our beloved fur babies being in an emergency is one of our biggest fears. Who knows how they will react or whether or not they will get hurt? But luckily for one orange tabby who was found lifeless in a hallway, the rescue team had exactly what they needed to bring him back from the brink of death.  Facebook It was around mid-afternoon that they believe the blaze began. And it was shortly after that when the New Orleans Fire Department arrived on scene. Firefighters quickly went to work quelling the flames and set out to save anyone (or any animal) that may have been trapped within.  Two resident cats were able to escape unscathed, but rescuers found an orange tabby unresponsive in the hallway. Firefighters across the country are forced to create makeshift masks to administer oxygen to animals suffering from the effects of smoke inhalation. But luckily for this cat, his rescue team was equipped with masks that were specially made...

19 Health Facts Veterinarians Want Every Cat Parent To Know

Image
Cats are very stoic creatures, preferring to keep their aches and ailments to themselves. Some kitties are capable of masking the symptoms of illness until their situation becomes an emergency. This, combined with the many misconceptions about proper feline health care, means that our cats don’t always get the essential treatment they need. Here, veterinarians offer their tips on everything from proper diet to grooming. They also address some of the most common mistakes and dangerous habits that could put your kitty’s health at risk. 1. Chonky cats are cute, but obesity is no joke. Fat cats make for adorable social media content, but according to veterinarian and author Ruth MacPete , allowing your cat to become overweight  is anything but “cute.” In fact, it’s a surefire way to compromise their health. “Just like with people, obesity in pets can lead to diabetes, heart problems, and arthritis,” says MacPete. As cats gain weight, adipose (fat) cells produce dozens of infla...

Meet Smiling Dog Popeye

Image
Dog's Name:   Popeye  Dog's Age:  12 Adoption Story: Every Sunday, a rescue comes out for adoption events. Every week, Popeye was the last dog left. He sometimes was left under the table because he was “bossy” and barked at everything that passed by. But this quirk caught my eye and I knew I had to spend some time with him. On the last week of my other dog's puppy class, we went to go talk with the rescue and they offered us the chance to foster him. The moment she put him in my arms, it was game over. I said forget fostering, let me adopt him now!!  We named him Popeye after the sailor. They share a commonality, one eye! Likes: The word “snackies” and enjoying the sun during his walks. He also enjoys playing with his other fursiblings where he obviously is the boss. Lastly, he enjoys laying on his side while getting his tummy scratched. from The Bark https://ift.tt/JRv9eF5

When you’ve got a collection of the cutest cats to be found, you want to show off those fine felines in an eye-catching way. But just how do you go about displaying such precious treasures? How about turning an old aquarium or terrarium into the ultimate display case for cats? In a post gone viral, TikTok user @mildwestsami shows us just how cute that can be. We all have too much stuff in our homes we’d just like to get rid of, but when we can think of another purpose for a piece that’s lost its luster, it’s always a win. So, when Mild West Sami took in an old fish tank, this plant-loving cat lover figured out two great ways to repurpose the tank. Her first idea to make a plant terrarium was a great one, but her second idea was truly purrfect ! TikTok How To Display Your Cats In a post seen more than 1.7 million times, Mild West Sami explained, “So, a while back, my in-laws gave me this old fish tank they were gonna get rid of, and originally I had made it into a terrarium.” ...

CattyCorner: Hacking Up The Info You Need Regarding Hairballs & Vomiting

Image
Greetings, my pawsome human minions. I, Forrest Wisewhiskers, am here again to impart my feline wisdom upon you. And let me begin with a question for you. Does your cat vomit? Or cough up hairballs? I know, I know, that’s like asking if a cat poops in a box. Of course, we vomit, and of course, we hack up hairballs. Such finely tuned machines of precision show their kinks every once in a while, and it just so happens one of the feline quirks involves cleaning up with a wad of paper towels. Especially if the kitty in question has luxuriously long fur. But cats and vomiting are one of those tricky issues that leave cat parents dancing between whether or not to call the vet. While I am a cat most magnificent, I am not a medical professional. Listen to your gut; if it’s telling you something is wrong with your precious furball maker, call the vet for a visit. My aim here is to educate you further on hairballs so you can better know your cat upchucks. Hopefully, my input can also help...
